The Truth About 'Remy' Hair

Remy hair systems. You want them. You expect them. You pay more for them. The 'experts' out there tell you that Remy hair is the only way to go...

The truth is, if you are wearing a lace based hair system, then you are almost 99.9% NOT wearing Remy hair. Even with other bases, it is highly unlikely that you have genuine Remy hair in your hair system.

"But I paid extra and have been assured that I have Remy!" Maybe so....but there is something you don't know, and it's something that your local 'experts' have either been hiding from you, or don't even know themselves. Paying attention? Here comes the science bit:

Remy hair is basically real human hair that still has its cuticle layers all facing in the same direction. The cuticle layers look like fish scales (you'll notice them on any magnified picture of a hair shaft). Your own real hair has these cuticle layers, and they all face in the same direction, which is why your hair never tangles. Now, imagine that these hair strands were all facing in different directions. What would happen? What would happen is that these fish scales would all hook onto each other and your hair would become a completely tangled mess - impossible to undo. Cuticle layers would interlock with each other all over the place.

When manufacturers create a custom lace hair system remy full lace wig , lace front wig, full lace wigs , two things need to happen: 1) The hair needs to be custom colored to exactly match your own, and 2) The hair strands need to be tied (knotted) into a lace base.

To custom colour your hair, a relatively aggressive acid bath is used to remove the cuticle layer (and the original color) of the independently sourced hair.

To create knots, even in single stranded hair systems, one hair is looped under the lace and tied to the base, resulting in two hairs on your hair system (in other words, one end of the single hair comes back upon itself underneath the base, just like a piece of string). If your hair was genuine Remy, and the cuticle layers were still intact, then they would now be facing in opposite directions. And you know exactly what would happen...

To create a genuine Remy hair system, you would need to inject the hairs, not tie them. That would require a skin base, and an extra process for root turning the hairs so that they are all cuticle correct.

The short answer: you're almost certainly not wearing genuine Remy.

But, thanks to the marketing efforts of many companies out there, everyone claims to be selling genuine Remy - and charging you more for it. vimage hair keeps it real though - our standard hair systems contain 'Remy Sourced' hair (in that it is Remy hair when sourced from outside the factories), but it is processed of its cuticle layer so that there will be no tangling when it is tied strand by strand to your delicate lace base. This all results in a good quality hair system that is tangle free.

Paying more for a remy hair system, particularly on a lace base, is a complete waste of time and is money for old rope. Most of the time suppliers ('experts') are just going along with the term without realizing any of this reality. And some of them know full well the deception they are carrying out on you. Don't be roped into it...
